I am Adeoluwa Makinde...

Born in Ile-lfe, Osun State, Nigeria, I studied mass communication with a major in advertising and public relations at Babcock University, llisan-Remo, Nigeria and currently studying Animation and Visual Effects with a focus on Compositing at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, United States.

I was set on this path of creative arts by my mum who made me engage in freehand drawings every day for 9 months after she found out I often paid one of my classmates to draw for me back when I was in elementary school because I couldn't. This was my first point of contact with fine arts, after which I moved to painting, then slid into graphic design.

My attention was first drawn to visual effects after I saw the first transformers movie. One question lingered on my mind "How on earth was this done"? I decided to go digging to get some answers which I eventually found. My appetite grew even stronger after watching several breakdown reels from the VFX studios involved on that show and some other notable movies in the same year, concluding that I must be a part of the vfx industry.

After I graduated from Babcock in 2013 and went on the mandatory one-year national service, I began searching for art schools where I could kick off this journey. I then came to notice the Academy of Art University (AAU) in San Francisco and decided to apply, after I discovered they had StudioX, a vfx studio owned by the school where students are trained to industry level experience and standards with real clients, real work and real deadlines.

During my time at StudioX (AAU's vfx studio), I served as Senior Compositing Lead for ‘Hide Behind’ and Compositing Lead on ‘Just Deal With It’. In addition, I contributed to ‘Water’ and ‘The Fix’ as a compositing artist, working with vfx supervisor Catherine Tate and vfx producer Sasha Korellis. I have ample experience working with and consistently improving myself in Nuke, Photoshop, PFTrack, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and Shotgrid.

Recently, I took interest and started studying Unreal Engine, trying to add to my software arsenal, further improving and expanding my knowledge in the vfx industry.

Working at StudioX, I engaged in CG integration, rotoscoping, 3D tracking, wire removals, shot clean up, color correction, deep compositing and troubleshooting in Nuke.

In the future, I hope to work on both small scale and large-scale visual effects productions.

My long-term goal is to get enough experience working in the industry to be able to establish my own visual effects powerhouse back home in Nigeria.
